Residential College

The International Campus of Zhejiang University adopts the collegiate system and commits to building a convergent international living community, in which teachers and students live together, integrates learning, accommodation and leisure. The Master of the Residential College, Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, is a famous educationist who was the President of University of Hong Kong. The Residential College cultivates students through “SHINE” (Scholarship, Helix, Integration, Navigation, Excellence) educational platform.

Residential College consists of four unique villages. Since the International Campus, ZJU was founded in 2016, Residential College No.1, No.2, No.3 have been put into use. The rooms located to the first floor and the basement provide residents with sufficient facilities, including multi-functional learning rooms, discussion rooms, innovation rooms, reading rooms, gymnasiums, physical rooms, band rooms, etc.

The accommodation area is located above the second floor. Residential College provides single room and double room types, students who live in the same unit share the public lounge. The teacher’s apartment is located in the 2nd-10th floor, unit B, Block 4 of Residential College No.1, 6th-9th and 10th floor, unit A, Block 5 of Residential College No.2, 10th floor, Block 4 of Residential College No. 3.

As an international living community, Residential College is an important carrier for the all-rounded development of students. It dedicates to cultivate students’ adaptability to international life, cross-cultural communication and management ability, global competitiveness and leadership. It provides rich resources and support for the growth of students, such as Student Counselling Center, Career Center, the Traditional Culture Outreach Center, the Student New-media Center, the Mentor Workshop, etc. There are 21 student clubs which enrich students’ campus life and enhance students’ comprehensive quality from multiple dimensions.

YAN Jianhua 严建华

He has served as Dean of Graduate School of Zhejiang University, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of Zhejiang University, and Vice President of Zhejiang University.

教授，博士生导师。教育部长江学者特聘教授，浙江大学发展委员会副主席、能源高效清洁利用全国重点实验室主任、固废能源化清洁利用技术与装备国家工程研究中心主任、浙江大学研究生教育研究中心（全国学位管理与研究生教育战略研究基地）主任，国家973项目首席科学家，浙江省特级专家，国务院政府特殊津贴获得者。历任浙江大学研究生院院长，校党委副书记、副校长。两次获国家级教学成果一等奖，国家级科技进步一等奖等奖项。 professor, doctoral supervisor. He has served as Dean of Graduate School of Zhejiang University, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of Zhejiang University, and Vice President of Zhejiang University. He won the first prize of national higher education teaching achievement award and the first prize of national technological progression award.

Master's message

The Residential College is a shared space for both students and teachers to live and learn in the International Campus of Zhejiang University. It is a platform for multidisciplinary education, knowledge exchange and cultural interaction. It also provides an environment conducive to teaching and learning, with active mentorship, academic advising and experiential internship.

The College also promotes self-governance of student bodies and facilitates self-directed student activities, thereby allowing our youngsters to develop to their fullest potential, achieve academic excellence and, at the same time, establish critical and independent thinking as well as high morality and ethical principles. Building on the 120 years of great tradition at Zhejiang University, the College will work with the University of Edinburgh (through the ZJE Institute), University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (through the ZJUI Institute) and the Institute of China Studies to allow its residents to develop a culture of new international perspectives, sense of social responsibility and caring for the welfare of humankind.
