On March 18, students from the International Campus watched the 21st lecture of the College's career planning series of tutoring, "Seeking truth as the foundation and innovation as the soul", in the multi-function hall of the Residential College (No. 2). This career planning course is one part of the "Five Ones" series of activities of the 2021 career planning festival of Zhejiang University. Academician Yang Wei, an academician of the CAS Member, an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Developing Countries, a foreign academician of the American Academy of Engineering, and a former president of Zhejiang University, was invited to explain the connotation of career planning to students from three aspects of "being a person, doing things, and learning".

Academician Yang Wei, speaking from his educational experience, mentioned that he had volunteered to join the queue in Northern Shaanxi when he was less than 15 years old, and he was also studying at Northwest Polytechnical University. When introducing his major, he joked that he studied metal pressure processing "forging".

Under the tough conditions at that time, the educated youth who cut ranks only had one third of their time to devote to professional courses. He even surpassed the students of Tsinghua University in mathematics and English. This spirit of independent learning and diligent research is also cultivated in the environment of queue jumping.

By telling about the indissoluble relationship between his grandparents and grandchildren and his experience as the president of Zhejiang University, Academician Yang Wei led everyone to review the development process of Zhejiang University: from 695 in 2006 to the top dozens in the world in recent years; The level of China C9 Alliance universities led by Zhejiang University has also risen rapidly... This is inseparable from the continuous efforts and painstaking efforts of several presidents. Whether you are doing things or being a person, keeping your original intention and perseverance is the "touchstone" of success.

After returning to Zhejiang University from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, he initiated the establishment of the Mechanics Cross Center, and made many achievements in cross mechanics: soft robotic fish, diamond cutters, intelligent flexible corneal contact lenses, etc. He introduced four kinds of cross mechanics and related applications: medium cross, level cross, rigid and flexible cross, and qualitative and intellectual cross.

"Tranquility is the key to success". Academician Yang Wei cited a photo of the West Lake and explained to the students that learning requires the power of "diving" - to firm the direction of your pursuit, to work tirelessly for it, and to make contributions where the motherland needs!
