On March 6, the 18th lecture of the 2022 career planning series "Promotion of English Resumes" and the 19th lecture "Promotion of Chinese Resumes" were held in the multi-function hall of the Residential College (No. 2). Professor Robert Holmes, a master of English teaching from King's College London, a teacher from the English Language Center of the International Campus who holds the certificate of adult English teaching from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom, a vocational tutor of the College, and Xia Qiang, a teacher from the Human Resources Department of the International Campus, explained in detail the writing methods of English and Chinese resumes for the students.
Robert Holmes started with the two terms "resume" and "CV" to explain that different kinds of English resumes have different expressions. Therefore, he suggested that students avoid using the same resume for delivery, and should give resumes that are suitable for different positions.
Speaking of how to write a suitable English resume, he described some practical skills and common mistakes that need to be avoided. For example, the description of soft skill should be higher than that of hard skill; Using appropriate and powerful verbs in your resume can appropriately express your personal experience and ability. He guided students to write English resumes on the spot and gave targeted suggestions.
"What is the core of a resume?" Xia Qiang, who has rich experience in resume screening, said that "personal professional skills and experience are the core competitiveness". The important principle of resume screening for HR staff is the suitability of candidates and positions.
How to "seize" opportunities through resumes? He introduced the "golden advertising space" for resume production, which highlights the matching advantages between individuals and intended posts in the important position of the resume. He explained a number of resume cases on the spot to help students recognize the basic principles, typesetting rules, inappropriate terms to avoid and other precautions in a highly visible resume, and gave practical guidance from the professional perspective of human resources.
