With the coming of the school anniversary, the students of the International Campus received a unique "celebration blessing" from outstanding overseas alumni. Not long ago, Jin Yucheng, a ZJUI2021 electronic and computer engineering graduate, took the initiative to contact the teachers in the campus and mentioned that he was about to complete his master's degree in UIUC and found an international job in his mind. In order to repay the campus for its training, Jin Yucheng took the initiative to share the "secret script" of IT industry internship and CS master's application with younger students.
On May 8, the 25th "CS Master Program Application and Career Development Planning" of iCareer was held online. Jin Yucheng made full preparations for this sharing. He contacted the teachers who organized the activities many times before and after, pondered over the content he shared, and updated several versions of PPT. He only hoped that through his sharing, the students could go more smoothly on the road of overseas further education or international job hunting.
Career.
"Hard power" and "soft power"?
Among the students' many majors of interest, Computer Science (CS) is undoubtedly one of the "top". "There are similarities between applying for a school and looking for a job. First, you should have a good understanding of the applicant." President Jin Yucheng made a comparative analysis of several American universities and introduced the similarities and differences of CS master programs in different universities with his own experience as an example. "Heroes don't ask where they came from." He suggested that we should not tangle with the school. The project itself is more important. "Some projects may require preparation for internship before they come, and internship opportunities are as important as scientific research."
He shared his experience in terms of "hard power" and "soft power" in terms of internship preparation after applying for master's degree. "Hard power" is mainly about his own academic and language achievements. He reminded students to pay special attention to oral performance when "refreshing" language achievements. In "soft power", the recommendation letter is particularly important. A convincing recommendation letter is also a proof of your strength. He specifically introduced the summer research projects of UChicago, UC Davis, North Carolina State, Notterdam and Berkeley. Compared with these visible "strengths", he believed that the most important thing was to have their own plans. "The choice should be based on their own plans and follow their own decisions." He suggested that students make the most appropriate choice based on their own conditions.
Capture the practice "wind vane"
Make the best preparation and apply for the most "iron head" position. Jin Yucheng explained the internship time, job search platform, post delivery and job search process in detail. "It is necessary to cast as early as possible, one turnip for one pit." He mentioned that the earlier you submit your resume, the better. Students who are interested in interning overseas should establish a more complete LinkedIn self introduction interface. In the delivery of resumes, it is an excellent habit to develop the delivery company and job records.
"Internal promotion can make your resume be seen earlier, and you can contact the seniors and sisters of our school for the opportunity of internal promotion." He suggested that students should cherish the interview opportunity, conduct simulation training before the interview, and constantly accumulate experience from the interviews they have participated in. "It is also helpful to pay close attention to the career planning channels of the campus and college." Knowledge reserve is as important as interview experience. "Frequently pay attention to career planning trends and relevant knowledge, and be able to know well in different interview scenarios."
Love your alma mater, and you are still a graduate of Zhejiang University
Jin Yucheng believes that the international campus is his enlightenment station to go to the international platform. At the end of this sharing meeting, he expressed his gratitude and miss for the campus. As an alumnus, he has been paying close attention to the development of his alma mater. He mentioned that he saw the news that four of his alma mater roommates made a permanent donation not long ago, and he also had a lot of resonance. He hopes to pass on the feelings of "graduating from Zhejiang University is still a person" to the students in today's sharing. This year marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of Zhejiang University. Although we cannot return home due to the epidemic, we will still celebrate our alma mater's birthday thousands of miles away. "Thank the campus for training us. I believe I can do more for the school and the campus in the future." Time is like gold, never forget the original intention, love the alma mater, and still graduate from Zhejiang University!
